This hand-crafted linocut miniprint sheds light on the tiny beginnings of the stag beetle: clusters of eggs hidden away in the loam near rotting logs, the wood of which has been prepared by the enzymes of mushrooms to be a nutrious food source for the soon-to-emerge stag beetle larvae that will break down the wood even further. Royal Ground is the final of three prints featuring different stages of the stag beetle life cycle.
